This fall, unable to perform or even rehearse indoors, we commissioned four new works specifically to be performed out-of-doors by distanced musicians and which could be performed with almost no rehearsal. We received unique and beautiful pieces from composers Anjna Swaminathan, Darian Thomas, Gelsey Bell, and Scott Wollschleger, and performed this ambitious program twice, once in Prospect Park and once in Fort Greene Park.
The concerts were received by appreciative audiences who came out to hear one of the few live orchestral concerts to take place in New York City in the last ten months. Our second concert, from Fort Greene Park, is available to watch in its entirety below.
We don’t know what 2021 will bring, but you can help us prepare for whatever comes by making a donation before the end of the year that we’ll use to bring you programs of new works and old standards in whatever way we can following the most up-to-date safety guidelines.
If possible, please click the button below to donate online, or for donations over $100, mail a check, made payable to the String Orchestra of Brooklyn, to the address below, which saves a significant portion of your donation from going to processing fees.
