Valerie Whitney
Double Bass
Valerie Whitney started playing music as a punk-rock bassist, playing basement shows for small crowds around Long Island. After discovering her passion for making music, she went on to earn her BA in Music from Hunter College. She continues to study bass with Kurt Muroki and Blake Hinson.
Valerie is committed to supporting communities of musicians by working in arts administration, including her former role as the Operations Manager for New Amsterdam Presents and her current position with the Operations Team at the New York Philharmonic. She continues to perform in New York City with orchestras, contemporary ensembles, bluegrass bands, and occasional punk-rock shows. When she’s not playing bass she enjoys baking tall cakes, snuggling cats, and discovering interesting new music in many genres.
