Jessica Ancker

Flute

At Jessica’s first ballet lesson at age 5, she discovered she was far more interested in the piano player than in the dancers. She ended up studying Dalcroze, theory, piano, recorder, flute, and piccolo in the Cleveland Institute of Music’s conservatory prep program. She played principal flute with the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra and the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra, and toured Europe with the New England Conservatory Youth Orchestra conducted by Benjamin Zander. In New York, she has played with the Amore Opera, the Westchester Collegium, the Dell’Arte Opera Ensemble, the Occasional Opera Company, and the Weill Cornell Music & Medicine Orchestra, as well as many chamber groups. Clarinetist Larry Beckhardt recruited Jessica to join the SOB in about 2009, and she serves on the orchestra’s board.
