On Saturday, February 7 at 8PM, the String Orchestra of Brooklyn presents Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 “Eroica” alongside critically acclaimed pianist Steven Beck, who will open the concert with Beethoven’s Eroica Variations. These two works, which share musical material that first appeared in the finale of the composer’s Creatures of Prometheus, mark the beginning of Beethoven’s “heroic” middle period, and celebrate Enlightenment ideals of freedom, reason, and the civilizing power of art.
